August 27, 2008
Can Labor Day be almost here? The summer has rushed by and is near it's close. Of course, the autumn in New Hampshire is truly beautiful with pleasant days and cool nights, and, of course, the fall foliage. There is some pretty nice boating during September and as the water cools the fishing improves. The last couple of weeks has been fine weather and has made up, in part, for all of the rain in July. The forecast for the Lakes Region is excellent right through Labor day.
Sea Ray is having its August clearance sale and you can find some unbeatable bargains right now on new Sea Ray boats. We still have one 2008 Bentley 22' Prestige available. Come and see it and make us an offer. You might be surprised! We also have several 2009 South Bay pontoons at fall discount prices.
The winter storage contracts have been mailed and you should be getting one soon. If you will be storing with us for the first time this year, please come by and pick up a storage agreement form. If we are going to winterize, but not store your boat, and this is your first time with us, please come by and pick up a winter service sheet and we can discuss what services are appropriate for your boat.
IMPORTANT: We are trying to arrange expanded inside storage for this winter. If you would prefer to store inside, please note that preference on your storage contract. At this moment, we do not know if the additional storage will be available but we have high hopes.
Bristol Old Home Day is Saturday. August 23. This year's event will be bigger and better than ever with a parade, games, food, crafters, vendors, music and fun for all. For more things to do go to our Links Page and click on Newfound Fun Calendar.
West Shore Marine is now a dealer for South Bay Pontoons in addition to Bentley. South Bay and Sanibel are made by Forest River Marine which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. We think you will
like these boats which offer different styling and a
bit more luxury than the Bentleys. They are priced slightly above the current Bentley pricing. We have just taken delivery of four new South Bays. Do stop by and see them. Meanwhile, take a look at the South Bay page for more information.
We are nearly sold out of new Bentley pontoons. We still have a 24' and a Prestige. And there is one
Glassmaster bow rider and one center console available. Come by and take a look. The pre-owned boats for sale are also on display.
A note on Newfound boat launching. Wellington State Park has a free launch ramp but the parking lot fills up in good weather and there is often a long line to get in. If you want to launch on the weekend, come early. West Shore Marine has a launch ramp, but we do NOT have any parking available. The charge for a launch is $10 but you have to find a place to park your rig and there is nothing close by. And just a reminder to be sure that your boat is clean of any weeds before you launch. Newfound Lake has avoided being infested with things like milfoil so far and we want to keep it that way. The group that has led the battle to protect the lake is the Newfound Lake Region Association. We encourage you to take a look at their website and see what you can do to support their efforts.
******IMPORTANT BOATING LAW CHANGE*******
As of August 17, 2007, ALL children age 12 or younger MUST WEAR an approved PFD (life vest) on any boat that is underway.
Note - the old law was age 5 or younger. The Marine Patrol will be rigorously enforcing this new law as of the 17th.

For 2008 and beyond New Hampshire requires all operators of boats with motors of more than 25hp to have a valid NH Safe Boater Education Certificate. Here is more from the State of NH: Chapter 4: The Legal Requirements of Boating
Who May Operate a Vessel
A vessel powered by 25 horsepower or less does not require the operator to have a Safe Boater Education Certificate.
A “ski craft” (motorized vessel less than 13 feet long that is capable of exceeding 20 miles per hour and has the capacity to carry no more than an operator and one other person) may be operated only by persons who are 16 years old or older and who have a valid Safe Boater Education Certificate as required by the “Schedule for Required Safe Boater Education.”
A vessel powered by more than 25 horsepower (other than a “ski craft”) may be operated by:
- A person under 16 years of age only if he or she is accompanied by a person 18 years old or older who has a valid Safe Boater Education Certificate. The accompanying person is responsible for any injury or damage caused during operation of the vessel.
- A person 16 years of age or older only if he or she has obtained a Safe Boater Education Certificate as required by the “Schedule for Required Safe Boater Education.”
A Safe Boater Education Certificate may be obtained by persons 16 years of age or older only and must be carried on board.
