Hurricane Irene has come and gone and the Newfound area came through pretty well. Several of the local rivers and streams came out of their banks and did some damage but overall things turned out well. Lots of damage in Plymouth from the Baker and Pemigewasset rivers. The Plymouth College campus had some flooding including to their new ice arena. Both the Fowler and the Cockermouth rivers flooded. Alexandria has a number of roads that are impassable. On Monday, the Lake was so high that most docks were under water. The water was over the bulkhead at the Newfound Boat Club. This in spite of the dam having been opened at least two days before the storm arrived in order to lower the lake level. As of this morning, the water level has come down some and the West Shore docks are clear.

Lots of road washouts all around the state, and even the Kancamagus Hughway was damaged. Lost some of the roadway and a bridge had to be closed. The highway is now closed and this is a real problem since foliage season is only weeks away.

Greg and the guys hauled a hundred or so boats out in anticipation of the storm. The wind was not a big problem, although a house on West Shore Road had a tree fall on it. But my gosh didn't it rain! Started in ernest around 9:30am on Sunday and by 4 or 5 in the afternoon it was pretty much done. In between we got a taste of just what a "tropical downpour" looks like. Jamie Moulton (Moulton's Maintenance) just came by and said that there are docks scattered all over the place. No boats lost as far as we know.

Tropical storm Katia is way out in the Atlantic and is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday. Right now, the forecast is for Katia to curve away from the US which would be very good news. Stay tuned!

"Hot and humid" says the weatherman and it is for sure. Going to be in the 90s today with some thunder in the afternoon. It has been clear and hot for quite a while now, and there will be more of the same right through next week. Great weather to get to the Lake for boating, swimming, or just laying on the beach.

Our rental boats have been pretty much sold out for a while but there are open days starting around the 1st of August. Speaking of boating, the West Shore launch ramp is generally not available to the public. We do not have any dock space for your boat or parking space for your truck and trailer. Wellington State Park has both, but you will need to be there EARLY, particularly on weekends.

Our final 2011 shipment of South Bay pontoons will arrive soon and includes a really interesting 22' with table and chairs forward and a 115hp Mercury outboard, and a 20' Fish and Cruise model with fish finder, live well and fish seats up front. We still have a nice selection of 18' and 20' cruise models among which is a stunning 720CR in Deep Sea Blue. Come in and visit our showroom.

This Saturday - July 23 - is the first of four free concerts at the gazebo next to Alexandria Town Hall. The music begins at 6:30 and features Uncle Steve's Band. The Alexandria Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary will have food and beverages. If you have a community event that you would like to post here, please send details on our Contact Us page.

Well, the weather so far has been a mixed bag - rather more rain than we want but some truly spectacular days as well. The forecast is for some showers on Saturday, improving on Sunday, and beautiful on Monday. Temps in the low 80s for the coming week. And speaking of the coming week, the 4th of July weekend is just over a week away.

You may have noticed that our website is wearing a brand new look - thanks to Becky Aubut. Becky used to work in the West Shore office until she got her degree in graphic arts. Look for more interesting and entertaining features going forward. And be sure to take a look at the new "Community Events" page where we have posted local happenings, including July 4th fireworks shows. If you have an event that you would like us to publish, send it along either through our "Contact Us" page or e-mail us at Westshoremarine1@hotmail.com.

WEST SHORE EXPANDS
West Shore Marine has undergone a major expansion of it's West Shore Road facilities. Beginning in 2008, West Shore purchased property nearby in Alexandria for boat storage. The property included a building that could accommodate about 50 boats stored inside. During the winter of 2009/20010, the rear part of the West Shore Road building was closed in forming a new and much larger shop area. The overhead door in the front wall was moved to the new shop area rear wall and two additional overhead doors were added to the shop side wall. The original opening in the front wall was glassed in and the old shop will now become a new showroom adjoining the marine store. The shop will have room for many boats under cover which means that inclement weather will not delay repair work. The showroom will allow customers to view our new boats in comfort in any weather.

UPDATE - APRIL 2011
The new shop has now been completed with interior walls, ceiling, electrical service, lights, insulation and heat. A new concrete floor was poured to replace the old asphalt one. The showroom has also been completed and the walls painted. The concrete floor was ground smooth and painted with an epoxy paint, and the building exterior has been covered with vinyl siding. The store inventory is much bigger and is split between the old store area and the new showroom. COME AND SEE US GROW!!
